I succumbed today to another idea inspired by
a NET tree
....a craft from the 50's!
Everyone had one of these.
I made a green one with my mom
and I think we might have sewed seequins to it.
...here's today's creation

for instructions

The base for my tree is a piece of silverplate
that I recently found at a thrift store
It's rather pretty and the filigree edge allowed me to attach
prisms..(my favorite thing)

maybe I will spray with adhesive and sprinkle on some
white glitter dust
but for now I'm leaving it alone....
This was so worth it..
the net was $1.99 a yd and I needed 3.5 yds
the dowel under $1.00
You don't need a fancy pedestal or prisms
just build the tree and set it out for all to enjoy.....

December 15 2012

Just opened Dec 15th on my Jacquie Lawson Advent Calendar

this years version is just the best...I wish I had a bunch of kids here to enjoy opening each day with me.
I have had a connection to Jacquie Lawson cards for years and years having first received one from my neighbor, Jo.

I find it odd these days that the Christmas season is over in a flash.
How did that happen?  As a child it would take
FOREVER!
for Christmas to get here.
Now, I dread Dec 26.  All the lights and decorations put away...
it is so dull and ordinary without them.
I'm not so far gone that I need to keep the house Christmasy everyday of the year...
and surely that would tasnish the shine of it all
BUT
I can understand that some people do that.
Maybe I should search them out and ask if I could drop by
perhaps in July and enjoy a bit of holiday spectacle?
When I come across a Christmas themed store
I so enjoy browsing
no matter that it is springtime or
middle of summer.  Entering into all that red and green and glitter and shine?
HEAVEN.
And, as for all the other retailers that have Christmas decorations out in October?
GOD BLESS THEM EVERY ONE

Yes...it did it again...Pinterest MADE ME DO IT...

Last July saw a Christmas door decoration that I had to copy...did you see it?...the vintage ice skate stufed with greens ?....for some reason this so inspired me...I have never ice skated, not as a kid in Missouri and never here in California....but that skate and silvery blade really screamed WINTERCHRISTMAS! to me.

#1
Searched out white vintage ice skates on

and purchased a very nice slightly aged pair of leather white skates ....

#2

The  Pinterest inspiration version had black and white checked long laces ...so...I go

and find

..the  photo below is the first one I made.....it doesn't have the 'snow' glitter dust on it yet, the greens are real cedar and pine from the Sierras, faux poinsettia, and berries.....

..here's the second one I made..(get it?...PAIR of skates)

..this one.....all the trimmings are faux...and it is presently hanging in a the local Mercedes dealership in my daughter's office....

...the finishing touch is the whte glitter dust...it is so icy..makes the blades look like they just cut across the rink!
